Gene Autry at Season Opener
Palm Springs, CA, December 3, 2008 — On January 31, 2009, the Palm Springs Chill Baseball team will take the field against the San Diego Sun Dawgs at Palm Springs Stadium for their season opener at 1:00pm. This first game of the season will be a special event as the Chill will be honoring the man who brought baseball to Palm Springs — Mr. Gene Autry.
Palm Springs POWER and Chill Baseball decided to salute the man who made it possible for these teams to play here in Palm Springs. To do so, fans will enjoy musical clips from the Singing Cowboy as well as many pictures that will be displayed throughout the stadium. Mrs. Gene Autry will be in attendance for this special day, as well as members of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, past and present, and staff of the Autry National Center of the American West. Mrs. Autry will also be involved in the pre-game ceremonies. This will be one event you will not want to miss!
The Palm Springs Chill Baseball team is a division of POWER Baseball. The Chill is part of a developmental winter league for professional players and prospects based out of Yuma, Arizona. The team will be on the road during the week and at Palm Springs Stadium on Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00pm.
