Detailed Synopsis:
Pat Buttram's damning testimony convicts Corey Fordham of killing Duane Simmons. Judge Lockwood sentences Fordham to jail, but he escapes, swearing vengeance on both Pat and the judge. Terrified, Pat telegraphs Gene Autry for protection. Gene finds Pat barricaded in a veritable fortress, with bear traps, rope slings, alarm signals, and threatening signs surrounding Pat's small ranch house. In addition, Pat wears a suit of armor and a bulletproof vest. Meanwhile, Simmons' widow, Louise, and children, Billy and Betsy, prepare to move because they can no longer afford their ranch. Gene convinces Pat to give the family his $5,000 reward money so that they can stay. Despite Gene's watchful eye, Fordham's henchmen capture Judge Lockwood, Pat, and Billy, who had gone to collect the money from Pat. Fordham makes the judge and Pat the defendants of a mock trial and sentences them to death. Following a trail of hundred dollar bills, which Pat and Billy dropped on the way to Fordham's, Gene arrives in time to stop the execution and capture the vengeful killer and his men.
