Detailed Synopsis:
Chuck Jones is the only boy in Pecos Bend who does not have a horse to ride. His father, Blowfly Jones, promises him the thoroughbred Blackie, whom rancher Gene Autry agrees to break. The town doubts Blowfly's promise, but Gene goes to the hills to work on the horse. On the way, he meets the town marshal investigating the death of a prospector found with horseshoe prints on him. The ground is also marked with the proof of a terrific struggle. All evidence points to Blackie because his shoes match those of the killer horse. Another prospector is found dead, and Blackie is put on trial and condemned to be shot. Gene, however, notes the discrepancy that the "wild stallion" wore shoes and sets out to find the real killer. Chuck lets Blackie escape, Gene and the heavies trail it, and they all find the horse at the same time. During a desperate fight, Gene sees one of the heavies using a club with an attached horseshoe that matches the bruises found on the dead man, but not the shoe marks on the ground. Blackie was used as a decoy to mark the ground after the heavies committed the murders. Blackie is officially cleared, and Chuck finally has his very own horse.
