2008 Founder's Day Exhibit
Gene Autry's Contribution to Rodeo Sport

Every year the Autry National Center celebrates Gene Autry's birthday, September 29, 1907, with a special cameo exhibit in the museum's lobby that showcases one aspect of Gene's life and career. This year the Autry takes a look at Gene Autry's role in professional rodeo.

Installation of the new exhibit at the Autry begins by hanging banners of Gene in the lobby.

Julio prepares the Plexiglas to seal a display case.

Three sides of the case are sealed before Gene's objects go in.

But first they make sure the Plexiglas will fit.

Easy does it!

One of the Gene Autry Rodeo saddles is secured in case of an earthquake.

The mounts are placed that will hold the rodeo programs.

Some of the mounts are tiny and nearly invisible in the case.

One of the Gene's shiny fluorescent rodeo shirts is sewn into place.

It's starting to come together!

Gene's rodeo artifacts for the first case are all in their spots.

Look at those shirts glow!

Everyone loves the black light effect!
